8020B - Bi-Amplified Monitoring System

Genelec 8020B Bi-Amplified Monitoring System

The small Genelec 8020B (Height with Iso-Pod¢â 242 mm, Width 151 mm and Depth 142 mm) has been designed for monitoring in difficult listening environments, particularly those compromised by lack of space. However, size is no handicap to performance as the 8020A two-way active monitoring system incorporates Genelec's acoustic design innovations to minimise all forms of distortion.

The 8020B has a die-cast aluminium Minimum Diffraction Enclosure (MDE¢â), which features relatively large internal volumes; softly curved edges and outstanding mechanical strength. As a result, the imaging accuracy and low frequency extension with such a compact enclosure are truly astounding.

The 8020B also incorporates the advanced Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW¢â), which provides an amazingly smooth on and off axis response; while the long, curved reflex port ends in a wide flare for excellent bass articulation.

Each monitor features a 105 mm (4 inch) bass driver along with a 19 mm (3/4 inch) tweeter loaded into a new advanced Genelec Directivity Controlled Waveguide (DCW¢â). The free field frequency response is 66 Hz to 20 kHz (¡¾ 2.5 dB). Maximum peak SPL output per pair with music material is 105 dB at 1 m. Bass and treble are each powered by 20 watt amplifiers.

8020B can be combined with the new 7050B Laminar Spiral Enclosure (LSE¢â) subwoofer to provide a powerful, bass-managed and wide bandwidth surround sound monitoring system.

Genelec DCW¢â Technology

The revolutionary Directivity Control Waveguide¢â (DCW¢â) technology greatly improves the performance of a direct radiating multi-way loudspeaker.

The DCW¢â waveguide is designed to match the frequency response and directivity characteristics of the drivers in the loudspeaker. This results in an excellent flatness of the overall frequency response for on and off-axis listening positions.

The improved directivity control reduces the reflected sound energy at the listening position. This improves the stereo and sound stage imaging and ensures very small sensitivity to varying control room acoustics, actually much smaller sensitivity than with any conventional direct radiator design.

The DCW¢â technology also improves the drive unit sensitivity even up to +6 dB, and therefore increases the maximum sound pressure level as well as decreases drivers and system distortion.

DCW¢â Technology key features:

  • Flat on and off-axis response for wider usable listening area
  • Increased direct-to-reflected sound ratio for reduced control room coloration
  • Improved stereo and sound stage imaging
  • Increased driver efficiency
  • Increased system Sound Pressure Level capacity
  • Decreased drive unit distortion
  • Reduced cabinet edge diffraction
  • Reduced system distortion

AutoCal¢â provides the industry's first integrated process for complete automated measurement, analysis, and adjustment of every monitoring loudspeaker in the control network for both PC and Mac plateforms.

  • Uses factory-calibrated Genelec acoustic measurement microphone (included)
  • AutoCal automatically creates a compensation file for host soundcard
  • AutoCal aligns Level and compensates Distance differences
  • Acoustic Response Editor provides accurate graphical display of the measured response, filter compensation and the resulting system response for each loudspeaker, with full manual control of acoustic settings
  • SinglePoint¢â and MultiPoint¢â microphone positions provide measurements for one, two or three person mixing environments (ex: mixer, musician and producer positions)

In GLM¢â System

  • 8200 Series loudspeakers can utilize four parametric DSP notch filters and four parametric DSP shelving filters for each loudspeaker
  • 7200 subwoofers utilize four parametric DSP notch filters, plus bass roll off controls
  • Adjusts correct crossover phase for all subwoofers in the network
  • Vertical Axis Trim for situations where loudspeaker acoustic axis cannot be physically optimized

In GLM.SE¢â System

  • Each 8130A digital input loudspeaker can utilize two parametric DSP notch filters, plus the room response controls in the loudspeaker hardware
  • SE7261A subwoofer utilizes four parametric DSP notch filters, plus bass roll off controls
  • Adjusts correct crossover phase for the SE7261A subwoofer on the network

Genelec LSE¢â Laminar Spiral Enclosure Technology

The electro-acoustic demands placed on subwoofers over the last decade have increased substantially to the point where traditional design concepts are no longer valid. Thus, it is incumbent for industry leaders to take bold initiatives in order to achieve the absolute best performance possible. Drawing on years of acoustic research and knowledge, Genelec's engineering group accepted the challenges placed upon them. The totally unique, curvilinear shape of the LSE¢â Series Active Subwoofer enclosure is the revolutionary patent-pending result of their efforts

The spiral-shaped design yields an extremely rigid enclosure exterior while also forming the subwoofer's integral port. The fact that one is part of the other means that air flow in and out of the enclosure's interior through the port is totally unrestricted. This results in an extraordinarily accurate and responsive low-frequency system with measured second and third harmonic distortion levels typically better than 30 dB below the fundamental.

When combined with Genelec stereo and 6.1 bass management active electronics, the LSE¢â Series Subwoofers offer a low-frequency listening experience unlike any other.
