Description

The KF940 portable horn-loaded subwoofer system, otherwise known as the "Super-Sub," has created a new level of sub bass performance by loading 2x specially designed 12-in woofers with a horn with an exponentially expanding throat that is over 13-ft long.

Great care has been taken to create woofer cones that could withstand the force of being loaded with such a large horn. As an impedance matching device, the horn brings the 1 Watt @ 1 M sensitivity of the system at 100 Hz to 113 dB SPL.

Like other mid- and low-frequency horns, the KF940''''''''''''''''s horn uses a construction technique that allows us to create horns with the necessary complex expansion rates. The complex flares are constructed from a 3mm veneer of cross-grain-laminated birch plywood that is fit into slots cut by our computer-numeric-controlled router. The birch veneer is then backed with a proprietary antiresonance, high-damping polyurethane foam, making the horn acoustically opaque.

Applications

The Super-Sub was first used in the United States at the Super Bowl XXXI Halftime Show in the New Orleans SuperDome. Two arrays of 4x BH882''''''''''''''''s (as they were originally called) each filled the entire SuperDome with thunderous subbass information.

The first European use came at the 1997 Mayday/Sonic Empire Rave at Dortmund, Germany. Using similar numbers of enclosures, similar results were obtained.

The KF940 subwoofer system is engineered for use in arrays of four or more modules. They are appropriate in any portable application requiring extremely high output levels of sub bass information.

A word of warning: high levels of low frequency information can and do cause intestinal distress. Please use these devices with caution.
